Overseas Student Health Cover Fee

As an international student, it is a requirement of your student visa that you have private health insurance for the duration of your stay in Australia as per the Australian Government policy. Medicare Australia national health program does not cover you.

The Department of Home Affairs requires all international students (and their dependents) coming to Australia to study under a student visa to have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for duration of their student visas. Failure to have continuous cover could result in a student visa being cancelled.

GHE has nominated BUPA as it's preferred Overseas Student Health Cover provider. It is not compulsory that students register with them, but evidence of purchased OSHC must be provided prior to the issuance of Confirmation of Enrolment.

It is your responsibility to renew your health cover when it expires if you are covered by BUPA's OSHC, you can do this online or at any BUPA branch. For information regarding current BUPA's rates for single and family cover, as well as general information about coverage and renewal, please refer to BUPA's website:

Payment of OSHC must be made if you accept an offer of study from GHE. If you are accompanied by family and children, you must have the compulsory family policy for OSHC. If you do not yet have health cover, GHE can help arrange visa-length cover or renew with our preferred OSHC provider. Email address: [email protected]

Statement of Tuition Assurance

GHE fulfills its requirements for tuition assurance arrangement through its membership with the Tuition Protection Service (TPS). These arrangements are outlined in the Financial Framework

The purpose of this arrangement is to protect relevant students if GHE defaults from its obligations and is unable to deliver a course paid by the student or if GHE does not meet its obligations to either offer the student an alternative course accepted by the student or refund the unspent prepaid tuition fees of the student.

If GHE ceases to provide an approved course the, TPS will either:
• offer affected students a replacement course; or
• repay the student’s tuition fees.

The replacement course must enable students to finish their original course or an equivalent. An eligible student may seek a review of TPS decision as to whether or not the alternative course offered meets these requirements.

If an eligible student accepts the offer of a replacement course:
• they will not be required to pay the replacement provider for the subjects of study that the student had commenced
   but not completed because GHE ceased to provide the course);
• they will receive credit for those parts of the original course successfully completed; and
• understand that tuition fees for the remainder of the replacement course may differ from the fees payable for the
  original course.

Students will have a period of 6 months in which to accept the offer (but TPS may extend that period in circumstances that justify an extension.
If there is no suitable replacement course for a student, the student’s balance will be re-credited for the affected parts of the original course.
If a student enrolls in a course not deemed to be a replacement course, the student:
• may be required to pay additional tuition fees; and
• might not receive the credits they would have received if they had enrolled in a replacement course.
